fine art, silver, Zimbabwe & gifts for charity - Muvezi In December 2006 Dr. Brian Carpenter paid his first visit to Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. Carpenter, a Canadian health professional, is also a great appreciator of Shona fine art. In Zimbabwe, he wanted to witness first-hand the problems plaguing the once world-renown Shona stone sculptors. Carpenter became deeply troubled by what he saw. The livelihood of the Shona tribe was dependent on Zimbabwe’s resources and flailing economy. The tribal art and African wildlife artists were struggling for survival. Upon his return to Canada, Carpenter felt compelled to help. Together with his long-time business partner, Greg Pendura and their Zimbabwe-based associate, Doug Dicker, the trio established Muvezi Inc and Muvezi Charitable Foundation. The non-profit organization is named for the Shona word ‘carver of stone’. Dedicated to a renaissance of African tribal art, and in particular to fine Shona stone sculptures, Muvezi’s primary goal became the renewal of this magnificent decorative stone art form.
